Qasr Al Sarab Protected Area

What is it?

Comprising 308 km² of natural sand dunes and sabkha (coastal salt flats), the Qasr Al Sarab Protected Area is located adjacent to the Qasr Al Sarab Hotelin the Al Dhafra Region.

What is there to see/do?

The area is home to more than 30 bird species, 13 reptile species and 10 mammal species, including the majestic Arabian Oryx, which we reintroduced into the wild from the verge of extinction. We reintroduced this species near the Qasr Al Sarab Hotel by Anantara so guests have the opportunity to encounter them in their native habitat. You can usually spot these majestic species around the hotel when it gets dark.

When is it open?

The desert, including the Qasr Al Sarab Protected Area [link], is open for anyone to explore by visiting the Qasr Al Sarab Hotel by Anantara.

How much does it cost to get in?

In order to see the majestic Arabian Oryx in our Qasr Al Sarab Protected Area, you must be a guest at the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara.

It's a two-hour drive from Abu Dhabi's city centre – take the E11 westbound then head south on the E65. When you're surrounded by stunning rolling dunes, you're there.
